How to Schedule Threads Posts

The Native Scheduler, Cross-Posting From Meta Business Suite, and the Limits That Apply

Short answer

You can schedule Threads posts natively in the Threads app or on the web. Write the post, open the more-options menu in the composer, choose Schedule, pick a date and time and confirm. Posts are limited to 500 characters, plus an optional text attachment of up to 10,000 characters, with up to 20 items in a carousel.

1. Can you schedule posts on Threads without a tool?

Yes. Threads announced native scheduling on February 10, 2025. In the composer you open the more-options (three-dot) menu, choose Schedule, set the date and time, and confirm.

The official @creators account announced the feature with a short "You can now schedule your posts" [s1], and the instructions shared with it describe the flow: tap the three-dot menu on the composer, tap Schedule, choose a date and time, then tap Schedule again. The feature works in the app and on the web [s2].

  1. Write the post in the composer. Add the text, images or video, and a text attachment if you need more than 500 characters. Check the link and any mentions.
  2. Open the more-options menu. Tap or click the three-dot menu in the composer and choose Schedule.
  3. Pick the date and time, then confirm. Choose when the post should go out and confirm with Schedule. The date picker shows how far ahead the product currently allows.Threads does not publish a maximum window in a help article we could find, so rely on the picker rather than a number from an old article.

2. Should you schedule Threads from Instagram or Meta Business Suite?

You can, and it saves time, but it also copies the same caption to a network where people read differently. Cross-post when the post genuinely fits both, not by default.

Instagram lets you share a post to Threads when you publish it [s3], and the Meta Business Suite mobile app lists cross-posting to Facebook, Instagram and Threads among its scheduling features [s4]. Both are convenient for announcements and launches.

The cost is tone. Threads is text-first and conversational, and a caption written to sit under a photo, with hashtags and a call to action in the last line, reads like an ad there. For anything other than a straight announcement, write the Threads version separately. The guide on repurposing one idea across channels covers what to change.

3. What limits does a scheduled Threads post have to fit?

Text posts are limited to 500 characters, text attachments to 10,000, carousels to 2 to 20 items, and videos to five minutes. Images through the API must be JPEG or PNG up to 8 MB.

The in-app composer can differ, so check it if a post sits close to a limit.

The text attachment, rolled out from September 2025 [s6], is the answer to "my post is 700 characters". Keep the hook in the 500-character post and put the longer argument in the attachment, rather than splitting it into a chain of replies nobody reads to the end.

4. What is better posted live on Threads?

Polls and other interactive formats, replies into live conversations, and anything reacting to a trend. Schedulers generally cannot publish interactive formats.

  • Polls and quizzes: a 2026 Sprout Social guide notes that interactive formats must be published directly in the app, because third-party tools do not support them [s2].
  • Replies to other accounts: Threads rewards conversation, and a reply scheduled a day late is not part of one.
  • Trend reactions: the value is in being early, which scheduling defeats.

A useful split for small teams: schedule the planned posts that carry your themes, and keep 15 minutes a day for live replies. The scheduled posts create the reasons for people to talk to you; the live time is where the conversation happens.

5. What does a third-party scheduler add for Threads?

The same things it adds elsewhere: one calendar with your other channels, approvals, and a longer planning horizon, since the tool holds the post and publishes it through the Threads API.

6. What should you check before scheduling on Threads?

Length, tone, the attachment, the media count and whether the post invites a reply. Threads posts that do not ask for anything rarely start anything.

  1. The main post is under 500 characters and works without the attachment.
  2. Longer text sits in a text attachment, not in a chain of replies.
  3. It reads like Threads, not like an Instagram caption with hashtags.
  4. Carousels have 20 items or fewer; videos are five minutes or shorter.
  5. No poll is expected; polls go out live.
  6. Someone will be around to reply, because the replies are the point.

7. Where does Oppira fit?

Oppira Studio publishes to Threads alongside X, Bluesky, Instagram and your other channels, drafts a Threads-specific version in your brand voice, and sends it only after you approve.

Because Studio plans every channel from the same playbook, the Threads version of an idea can differ from the Instagram caption without anyone rewriting it by hand. Comments land in Studio's inbox, where replies are drafted in your voice and published on approval.
