How to Schedule Posts on X

The x.com Composer, X Pro After the Premium+ Change, and What Cannot Be Queued

Short answer

You can schedule posts on X for free from the compose box on x.com. Write the post, select the calendar icon at the bottom, choose the date and time, and select Confirm. Scheduled posts live under Unsent posts. Longer Premium posts cannot be scheduled on the web, and X Pro requires Premium+ since March 2026.

1. How do you schedule a tweet on X without a tool?

Use the compose box on x.com in a browser. Select the calendar icon, set the date and time, confirm, then post. The post waits in Unsent posts until it publishes.

The flow described in the X Help Center [s1]:

  1. Open the composer on x.com. Sign in on x.com in a browser and open the compose box. Write the post and attach any images, GIF or video.
  2. Select the calendar icon. The calendar icon sits at the bottom of the compose box. Pick the date and time you want the post to go out.
  3. Select Confirm, then schedule. Confirm the time, then schedule the post from the compose box. It will not publish until the time you set.
  4. Check Unsent posts. Select Unsent posts from the compose box to see drafts and scheduled posts, and to edit or delete what is queued.

2. What cannot be scheduled on X?

Longer posts, the Premium feature for posts over 280 characters, cannot be scheduled or saved as drafts on the web. Threads also need care, because the help center describes scheduling a single post.

X states directly that you currently cannot save a draft or schedule a longer post on the web [s2]. If your plan relies on long-form posts, publish them live, or keep the scheduled version under 280 weighted characters and move the detail to a reply you post live.

Other things that do not queue well natively:

  • Threads: X Help describes scheduling a post, not a chain of posts. If a thread must land at a fixed time, use a scheduler that explicitly supports threads, or publish it live. The guide on writing an X thread covers structure.
  • Replies and quote posts timed to someone else's post: these depend on context that will not exist in advance.
  • Direct messages: the scheduling option lives in the post composer and applies to posts, so plan DMs as live tasks.

3. Is X Pro still the way to schedule on X?

Only if you pay for Premium+. On March 26, 2026 X moved X Pro, formerly TweetDeck, from Premium to Premium+, priced at $40 a month or $395 a year at the time.

X Pro keeps a multi-column view and a scheduled section, which is useful for teams who monitor as much as they post. The change was reported by several outlets without prior notice to users [s3]. For scheduling alone, the free x.com composer does the same basic job, so paying for Premium+ only to schedule is hard to justify.

4. How does X count characters in a scheduled post?

Up to 280 weighted characters. Most text counts as one, emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters count as two, every link counts as 23, and attached media counts as zero.

The 23-character rule is why UTM-tagged links are safe on X: the tracking parameters make the URL longer, not the count. The counting rules are published in X's developer documentation [s4].

5. What media can a scheduled X post carry?

Up to four photos, or one animated GIF, or one video per post. Images are capped at 5 MB, GIFs at 15 MB, and X recommends frames between 1:3 and 3:1.

X's developer documentation lists up to 4 photos, 1 GIF or 1 video per post, images up to 5 MB and GIFs up to 15 MB, and aspect ratios between 1:3 and 3:1, with 1280 x 720, 720 x 1280 and 720 x 720 as recommended sizes [s5]. Video limits differ by account type; the video specs guide has the details.

6. What does a third-party scheduler add for X?

Threads as one scheduled unit in many tools, a calendar next to your other channels, approvals, and queues across several accounts. The post itself is published through X's API.

7. What should you check before a scheduled X post goes out?

The weighted character count, the account, the time zone, the media count and whether the post still makes sense if the news moves before it publishes.

  1. Under 280 weighted characters, counting emoji as two and links as 23.
  2. Posted from the right account if you manage several.
  3. Time set for the audience, not for you.
  4. Four images or fewer, each under 5 MB, or one GIF or one video.
  5. Not tied to a live event or trending topic that could turn awkward by publish time.
  6. Links tagged with UTM parameters so the traffic is attributable.
  7. Someone will be around to reply, since X conversation moves fast.

8. Where does Oppira fit?

Oppira Studio plans X posts in the same calendar as your other channels, drafts them in your brand voice from your playbook, and publishes after you approve.

Studio publishes to X along with LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest and the other connected channels, with UTM-tagged links. On the Intel side, Oppira also tracks competitor posts and replies on X, which is useful context before you queue a week of posts.
